THE STORY BEHIND THE DESIGN
Operation Safed Sagar was the Indian Air Force’s component of the 1999 Kargil conflict. It opened on 26 May 1999 and ran until the campaign closed that July — the first time the IAF flew sustained combat operations above 16,000 feet.
Crews flew under a standing constraint not to cross the Line of Control. MiG-21s, MiG-23s and MiG-27s struck camps and supply routes around Dras, Kargil and Batalik, while Mirage 2000s delivered the IAF’s first combat use of laser-guided bombs.
The design references that publicly documented history. It is an independent tribute and carries no official sanction.
