Buying a desk mat by guesswork usually ends one of two ways: your mouse keeps falling off the edge, or the mat hangs over the side of the desk. The easiest way to get it right is to start from your keyboard. This guide shows which desk mat size suits 60%, 65%, 75%, TKL and full-size keyboards, with a simple rule you can check with a measuring tape.
The simple rule: keyboard width + mouse space
Measure your keyboard from left to right, then add about 30 cm for your mouse. If you play games with low mouse sensitivity and make big arm movements, add 40 cm or more instead. The total is the minimum width your desk mat should be.
Depth matters less. Most keyboards are 10–15 cm deep, so any of our mats (28–54 cm deep) leaves room for your wrists. Go deeper (XL or XXL) if you also want a notebook or a laptop on the mat.
Typical keyboard widths
Exact sizes vary by brand, but these ranges are a good starting point:
| Keyboard layout | Typical width | + mouse space | Width you need |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60% | 29–30 cm | 30 cm | about 60 cm |
| 65% | 31–32 cm | 30 cm | about 62 cm |
| 75% | 31–33 cm | 30 cm | about 63 cm |
| TKL (tenkeyless) | 35–37 cm | 30 cm | about 67 cm |
| Full-size (100%) | 43–46 cm | 30 cm | about 76 cm |
Which DeskCart size fits your keyboard
All DeskCart mats come in four sizes and are 3 mm thick:
| Size | Mat size | Best match |
|---|---|---|
| M | 28 × 60 cm | 60% keyboards and laptops on smaller desks |
| L | 30 × 80 cm | 65%, 75%, TKL and most full-size keyboards |
| XL | 42 × 90 cm | Full-size keyboards with a notepad, or low-sensitivity gaming |
| XXL | 54 × 110 cm | Full desk coverage, dual monitors, keyboard + laptop together |
60% keyboard
A 60% keyboard plus mouse fits on an M (28 × 60 cm) mat. If you like extra mouse room or want your keyboard centred, step up to L.
65% and 75% keyboards
These are only a few centimetres wider than 60%, but an M gets tight once you add the mouse. An L (30 × 80 cm) gives comfortable space on both sides.
TKL keyboard
With a tenkeyless board you need roughly 67 cm, so L (30 × 80 cm) is the natural choice. Gamers with low sensitivity should consider XL.
Full-size keyboard
A full-size keyboard plus mouse needs around 76 cm. L (80 cm) fits, and XL (42 × 90 cm) adds room for a notepad or a drink coaster. If your desk is 120 cm or wider, XXL covers most of it for a clean, uniform look.
Check your desk too
- Your mat should be at least 10 cm narrower than your desk, so it doesn’t hang over the edge.
- On a 100–120 cm desk, L or XL usually looks best.
- On a desk wider than 120 cm, XL or XXL makes the setup look finished.
Quick answers
What size desk mat do I need for a TKL keyboard?
Usually an L (30 × 80 cm). It leaves about 40 cm for your mouse.
Is a 60 cm desk mat enough?
For a 60% keyboard and normal mouse use, yes. For anything wider, choose 80 cm or more.
Can I measure my desk mat from a product photo?
Photos can be misleading, so go by the dimensions. Every DeskCart product page lists the exact size of each option.

Designs for bigger keyboards
Full-size and TKL keyboards need more width, so look at the larger sizes first. Designs that currently come in XXL include Krishna Pattachitra, Midnight Lion, Neon After Hours and Swirl Motion Classic. Every design comes in M, L and XL.
